Mixing Freckles Pigments: Shade by Skin Type
Not every skin tone is the same, and not every client wants the same intensity. If you work with a single pre-mixed brown shade, you make it suitable for everyone. It is better to do the opposite: adapt the color to the skin.
Why one brown shade is not enough
Real freckles are never just one color. Some are light and barely visible, others significantly darker. If all the dots have the same shade, the result looks flat.
Then there is the skin itself. A shade that looks harsh on light skin may barely be noticeable on darker skin. That is why we work with a small system of four colors instead of one.
The four Freckles pigments at a glance
| Pigment | Type | For |
|---|---|---|
| Tiana | Base | Light and warm, for soft freckles and lighter skin tones |
| Florida | Base | More intense and warm, for more visible freckles |
| Maria | Mixing pigment | More depth and intensity |
| Janarine | Mixing pigment | Targeted warmth |
How to mix correctly
The base is always Tiana or Florida
You can use both base shades on their own or combine them. This allows you to create different brown nuances in a single treatment, and that is exactly what makes freckles look real.
Maria for depth
About 1 to 4 drops of Maria in Tiana or Florida add more depth. Maria is slightly more fluid. This makes it easier to apply to oily, large-pored, or demanding skin.
Janarine for warmth
About 1 to 3 drops of Janarine in Tiana or Florida make the mixture warmer.
The most important rule
Maria and Janarine are pure mixing pigments. They are never used on their own. The drop counts are guidelines; you choose the right mixture based on skin type, desired intensity, and look.
Which color for which desired result?
- Very natural, light skin: Tiana on its own.
- Clearly visible: Florida on its own or combined with Tiana.
- More depth: Base plus a few drops of Maria.
- More warmth: Base plus a few drops of Janarine.
How to recognize good pigments
Immediately after the treatment, almost all pigments look good. The difference shows during healing and months later.
- Uniform particles. If the pigment particles are uniformly structured, they will also leave the skin uniformly. No color haze will remain.
- Nothing settles. If nothing settles at the bottom of the bottle, you do not need to shake it, and the color remains the same from the first to the last treatment.
- Full declaration. The ingredients should be listed on the bottle, and the manufacturing should be EU-compliant.
All four shades together are available in the Freckles Pigment Set, 10% cheaper than buying them individually.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Maria or Janarine on their own?
No. Both are mixing pigments and should always be combined with Tiana or Florida.
How long do the pigments last?
12 months after opening. The best-before date is on the bottle.
Is one color enough to start with?
With one pigment, you work with a fixed brown shade. That works for the first exercises. As soon as you have clients with different skin tones, you will need the mixing pigments as well.
